1. Overview

ReturnCue is a local-first journal for recording intentions, distractions, and returns. ReturnCue is designed to work without an account and without uploading journal content to a developer-operated server.

2. Information stored on your device

ReturnCue may store the following information locally:

  • Journal entries and their creation times.
  • Intention durations, continuation times, and return history.
  • Reminder settings and local notification identifiers.
  • Onboarding, appearance, and app preferences.
  • Free-plan intention allowance and reset information.
  • ReturnCue Plus entitlement state received through StoreKit.

3. Information the developer does not collect

ReturnCue does not require a developer-operated account. The developer does not receive journal content, operate an advertising service, track you across apps or websites, or operate an analytics service in ReturnCue.

4. Purchases and subscriptions

Apple processes ReturnCue Plus purchases, billing, restoration, and verified entitlement status through StoreKit. The developer does not receive your full payment-card information. ReturnCue does not associate journal content with Apple billing information.

Plus can be restored on another device using the same App Store account. Journal content does not sync between devices.

5. Notifications and Live Activities

If you allow notifications, ReturnCue schedules local reminders through iOS. Reminder text does not include journal content. ReturnCue may also present an intention timer as a Live Activity. You control these permissions through iOS Settings.

6. Retention

Free-plan archived entries are automatically deleted after ten calendar days. Entries protected while ReturnCue Plus is active remain on your device after the subscription ends, until you delete them or remove ReturnCue and its data.

7. Export and deletion

Settings lets eligible users export journal data as Markdown and delete all local journal entries and pending reminders. Exported files go only to the destination you choose in Apple's share sheet.

8. Device backups

Apple may include app data in an iCloud or computer backup, according to your device and backup settings. The developer does not control those backups.

9. Security

ReturnCue requests iOS complete file protection for its local data. No security method can guarantee absolute protection. Keep your device passcode and Apple Account secure.

10. Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when ReturnCue's behavior or legal obligations change. The current version is always published on this page. For privacy questions, contact support@returncue.app.
